  • Everyone is outsourcing. When you hire someone to paint your house or change your oil you are outsourcing.
  • Outsourcing is business is usually longer term. It is more like hiring someone to cut your grass or quarterly extermination of bugs for your home.

  • recurring nature of activities and existence of contract indicates service goes beyond consulting type of service.
  • not only are activities transferred, but factors of production are often transferred as well. Factors of production are resources to perform activities (e.g.,  people, facilities, equipment, technology)

Decision rights are responsibilities for making decisions over certain elements of activities transferred. Outsourcing is powerful transformation tool which has less risk of implementation failure than other tools.
